Hollywood high school PRESENTS: “1660 Vine”

“it is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”

- Albert Einstein

In 2022, Hollywood High School’s theater department took on the unique challenge of mounting an original musical about social media influencers called 1660 Vine and workshopping with the original bookwriter (Patchwork Piñata co-founder Jackson Prince) and the film’s producers to ready the stage version for licensing at Musical Theater International (MTI). Patchwork Piñata’s 25-minute short captures the process of producing a high school musical, one affected by the recency of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as by the intensifying presence of mental health issues in high schools across the country. The film showcases the importance of quality educators, accessible arts education, and well-funded arts programming for public school students. The film also employed apprenticeships for Hollywood High School’s media department students, who worked as additional camera operators on the documentary. The documentary will premiere on MTI’s website as part of the 2024 stage licensing release of 1660 Vine.
